The short version of pentadecapeptide fits in a sentence. The long version — which is the one that helps — is below.
Reviewed 2026-02-14. Anything still debated is marked as such rather than presented as settled.
Supplied material is typically a lyophilized white to off-white powder. The peptide is freely soluble in water and in common aqueous buffers, which allows it to be handled as a stock solution. Because the sequence contains no cysteine, disulfide cross-linking is not a route of degradation. The absence of aromatic residues means ultraviolet absorbance at 280 nm is minimal, so quantification usually relies on peptide bond absorbance near 214 nm or on amino acid analysis.
Common synonyms in catalogs include pentadecapeptide BPC 157, BPC157, and the full sequence name. A CAS registry number in the 137525-51-0 range is frequently listed, though the assignment should be verified against the supplier certificate of analysis. The name itself is not a pharmacopoeial designation, and there is no standardized international nonproprietary name. Distinguishing genuine material from related fragments generally requires mass spectrometry, since several truncated sequences share similar chromatographic behavior.
The sequence contains an unusually high proportion of proline and glycine, which limits regular secondary structure and contributes to solubility in aqueous media. The compound dissolves readily in water and in normal saline. Because it is a peptide, digestive enzymes are expected to break it down if it is swallowed, a consideration that influences the routes of administration used in animal experiments. Detailed conformational data remain limited, and published structural models are largely computational.
BPC 157 is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acids. The letters stand for body protection compound, and the number is a laboratory code rather than a description of any biological feature. Its single-letter sequence is GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, which corresponds to a calculated mass near 1419.5 daltons. The material is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis and is distributed as a lyophilized powder, not as a purified extract from a natural source.

Some properties, such as the peptide's sequence and molecular mass, are firmly established. Other claims, particularly about mechanism and clinical benefit, remain open questions. Proposed mechanisms include effects on nitric oxide signaling and on cell migration, but these are hypotheses supported by limited evidence. Reviewers often note that the field lacks large controlled human trials. Positive animal findings are best treated as signals for further study rather than as settled conclusions.
Most published studies examine BPC-157 in animal models rather than in humans. Common subjects include rats and mice, and researchers often use models of tissue injury, surgery, or induced inflammation. Reported endpoints include healing rates, blood vessel formation, and markers of tissue repair. These designs provide controlled comparisons, but findings in animals do not automatically transfer to people. Human clinical data remain limited and are frequently described as preliminary.
Identity and purity are checked with standard peptide techniques. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the main peak from closely related impurities and yields a percentage purity. Mass spectrometry confirms that the measured mass matches the theoretical value. Amino acid analysis offers an independent check on overall composition. These analytical methods characterize the material itself and reveal nothing about how it behaves in a living system.
In its common research form the peptide is supplied as a lyophilized powder. It dissolves readily in water and in typical aqueous buffers, which simplifies preparation of working solutions. Laboratories usually prepare small aliquots instead of one large volume. The dry material appears as a white to off-white solid with no distinctive odor. Bulk quantities are typically shipped in sealed vials.
Lyophilized material is generally kept cold, commonly at minus twenty degrees Celsius, and shielded from moisture and light. Solutions are less stable than the dry powder, so repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided by splitting the material into single-use portions. Published stability data for this particular peptide are limited, which means suggested hold times should be read as provisional. Long-term refrigeration of reconstituted solutions is not well supported by available evidence.
Physical descriptions in supplier documents and papers usually list the compound as a white to off-white powder. It dissolves readily in water and in common aqueous buffers, and solutions are often prepared fresh before an experiment. Molecular mass near 1419 daltons helps verify identity during mass spectrometry. The powder is somewhat hygroscopic, so moisture exposure can alter the measured mass of a sample. Purity is typically reported as a percentage from chromatographic analysis.
BPC-157 is a synthetic fifteen-amino-acid peptide whose sequence is GEPPPGKPADDAGLV. Its name derives from the phrase body protection compound, a term applied to a protein fraction originally detected in human gastric juice. The short peptide is not that full protein; it corresponds to a stable fragment of the larger molecule. Researchers frequently describe it as a pentadecapeptide because it contains exactly fifteen residues. Its neutral molecular mass is approximately 1419 daltons.
The sequence places several glycine and proline residues near the middle, which may influence how the chain folds in solution. The peptide is linear rather than cyclic, and it carries no disulfide bridges. Commercial material is commonly supplied as the acetate salt, although the free base and other counterion forms also appear. Because the term BPC-157 refers to a specific sequence, samples with slight sequence variants are chemically different substances. Published work generally treats the fifteen-residue sequence as the defining structure.
== Medical use == Cyclofenil is used to treat menstrual disturbances and anovulatory infertility caused by insufficiency of the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis in women. It has also been used to treat menopausal symptoms. The medication is generally used at a dosage of 400 to 600 mg per day.
A team led by Enrico Fermi in 1934 found that bombarding uranium with neutrons produces beta rays (electrons or positrons from the elements produced; see beta particle). The fission products were at first mistaken for new elements with atomic numbers 93 and 94, which the Dean of the Sapienza University of Rome, Orso Mario Corbino, named ausenium and hesperium, respectively. The experiments leading to the discovery of uranium's ability to fission (break apart) into lighter elements and release binding energy were conducted by Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann in Hahn's laboratory in Berlin. Lise Meitner and her nephew, physicist Otto Robert Frisch, published the physical explanation in February 1939 and named the process "nuclear fission". Soon afterward, Fermi hypothesized that fission of uranium might release enough neutrons to sustain a fission reaction. Confirmation of this hypothesis came in 1939, and later work found that on average about 2.5 neutrons are released by each fission of uranium-235. Fermi urged Alfred O. C. Nier to separate uranium isotopes for determination of the fissile component, and on 29 February 1940, Nier used an instrument he built at the University of Minnesota to separate the world's first uranium-235 sample in the Tate Laboratory. Using Columbia University's cyclotron, John Dunning confirmed the sample to be the isolated fissile material on 1 March. Further work found that the far more common uranium-238 isotope can be transmuted into plutonium, which, like uranium-235, is also fissile by thermal neutrons.

In the winter, moist air from the Atlantic condenses in the cold continental interior, resulting in overcast conditions. However, this same continental influence results in sunnier summers than oceanic cities of similar latitude such as Edinburgh. Between 2004 and 2010, the average sunshine received varied between 1800 and 2000 hours, with a tendency toward more sunshine in summer months—up to a record 411 hours in July 2014, which represented 79% of potential sunshine. December 2017 was the darkest month in Moscow since records began, with only six minutes of sunlight. Temperatures in the center of Moscow are often higher than in the outskirts and nearby suburbs, especially during winter. For example, if the average January temperature in the northeast of Moscow is −6.2 °C (20.8 °F), in the suburbs it is about −8.3 °C (17.1 °F). The temperature difference between the center of Moscow and nearby areas of Moscow Oblast can sometimes be more than 10 °C (18 °F) on frosty winter nights.
=== Blood tests === When RA is clinically suspected, a physician may test for rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPAs measured as anti-CCP antibodies). The test is positive approximately two-thirds of the time, but a negative RF or CCP antibody does not rule out RA; rather, the arthritis is called seronegative, which occurs in approximately a third of people with RA. During the first year of illness, rheumatoid factor is more likely to be negative with some individuals becoming seropositive over time. RF is a non-specific antibody and seen in about 10% of healthy people, in many other chronic infections like hepatitis C, and chronic autoimmune diseases such as Sjögren's disease and systemic lupus erythematosus. Therefore, the test is not specific for RA. Hence, new serological tests check for anti-citrullinated protein antibodies ACPAs. These tests are again positive in 61–75% of all RA cases, but with a specificity of around 95%. As with RF, ACPAs are many times present before symptoms have started. The by far most common clinical test for ACPAs is the anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti CCP) ELISA. In 2008, a serological point-of-care test for the early detection of RA combined the detection of RF and anti-MCV with a sensitivity of 72% and specificity of 99.7%. To improve the diagnostic capture rate in the early detection of patients with RA and to risk-stratify these individuals, the rheumatology field continues to seek complementary markers to both RF and anti-CCP.
It would then be possible to detect structures belonging to Type II in our galaxy or in those nearby. Type III structures can also be observed at large cosmological distances. Kardashev recalls that a study was conducted on 3000 sources of the IRAS catalog from the four directions of the sky. Two temperature bands were targeted: from 110 to 120 K and from 280 to 290 K. The analysis showed that the 110–120 K sources are clustered in the Galactic plane and in its center. Kardashev explains that only more powerful observations in the infrared and submillimeter range can reveal possible artificial sources of radiation. He then refers to projects that he has proposed, in particular that of putting into orbit a cryogenic space telescope (the Millimetron Project). According to Kardashev, these results, combined with those of other research on the age of certain cosmic objects, suggest that civilizations dating from 6 to 8 billion years ago may exist in our galaxy. It is likely that they have long since discovered our own civilization, a hypothesis that could answer the question posed by Enrico Fermi when he formulated his paradox: "Where are they?". Without the discovery of artificial sources, however, Shklovsky's theory that civilizations self-destruct as a result of large-scale social conflicts would be proven.
== Types == Many rheumatic disorders of chronic, intermittent pain (including joint pain, neck pain or back pain) have historically been caused by infectious diseases. Their etiology was unknown until the 20th century and not treatable. Postinfectious arthritis, also known as reactive arthritis, and rheumatic fever are other examples. In the United States, major rheumatic disorders are divided into 10 major categories based on the nomenclature and classification proposed by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) in 1983.
Cerebral creatine deficiencies (CCDs) are a small group of inherited disorders that result from defects in creatine biosynthesis and transport. Commonly affected tissues include the brain and muscles. There are three distinct CCDs. The most common is creatine transporter deficiency (CTD), an X-linked disorder caused by pathogenic variants in creatine transporter SLC6A8. The main symptoms of CTD are intellectual disability and developmental delay, and these are caused by a lack of creatine in the brain, due to the defective transporter. There are also two enzymatic defects of creatine biosynthesis, arginine:glycine amidinotransferase deficiency (AGAT deficiency), caused by variants in GATM gene and guanidinoacetate methyltransferase deficiency (GAMT deficiency), caused by variants in GAMT gene. The two single enzyme defects are both inherited in an autosomal recessive manner.

According to helium conservationists like Nobel laureate physicist Robert Coleman Richardson, writing in 2010, the free market price of helium has contributed to "wasteful" usage (e.g. for helium balloons). Prices in the 2000s had been lowered by the decision of the U.S. Congress to sell off the country's large helium stockpile by 2015. Richardson posited that the price of helium needed to be multiplied by 20 to eliminate excessive wasting of the gas. In a 2012 paper by Nuttall and colleagues titled "Stop squandering helium", they proposed to create an International Helium Agency that would build a sustainable helium market.
The secondary (or peripheral) lymphoid organs, which include lymph nodes and the spleen, maintain mature naive lymphocytes and initiate an adaptive immune response. The secondary lymphoid organs are the sites of lymphocyte activation by antigens. Activation leads to clonal selection and affinity maturation. Mature lymphocytes recirculate between the blood and the secondary lymphoid organs until they encounter their specific antigen.
== Causes == Myositis can arise from various causes, including injury, certain medications, infections, inherited muscle disorders, or autoimmune conditions. In some instances, the origins of myositis remain idiopathic, without a discernible cause.
=== Announcement === Prompted by the government, the Rhodesian Broadcasting Corporation told the public to stand by for an important announcement from the Prime Minister at 13:15 local time. Smith went first to Government House to inform Gibbs that his Cabinet had declared independence, then to Pockets Hill Studios in east Salisbury to announce UDI to the nation. He read the proclamation aloud, then stated that independence had been declared because it had become "abundantly clear that it is the policy of the British government to play us along with no real intention of arriving at a solution which we could possibly accept ... I promised the people of this country that I would continue to negotiate to the bitter end and that I would leave no stone unturned in my endeavours to secure an honourable and mutually accepted settlement; it now falls to me to tell you that negotiations have come to an end". Smith said that he believed that he would be remiss in his duty if he allowed Rhodesia to continue to "drift in its present paralysing state of uncertainty", and that following Britain's abandonment of the Federation his government was determined that "the same will never be allowed to happen here". He claimed that UDI did not mark "a diminution in the opportunities which our African people have to advance and prosper in Rhodesia", described "racial harmony in Africa" as part of his agenda and condemned black Rhodesian activities as attempts to "blackmail the British government into ... handing the country over to irresponsible rule".
On 2 January 2023, more "revogaços" happened, measures included stopping the privatization process of some eight state-owned companies (such as the Correios and Petrobras) and dismissing almost a thousand appointees in federal posts linked in some way to the Bolsonaro government. On 11 January, Lula signed into law the project which makes the CPF the only necessary document for identification, after its approval by the Federal Congress.

It is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acids, with a mass of roughly 1419 daltons. The sequence is reported to match a fragment of a protein present in human gastric juice. It is not a naturally circulating hormone.
It is normally supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed vial. The powder dissolves readily in water, and stock solutions are typically prepared shortly before use. Cold storage is standard laboratory practice.
The letters are generally read as shorthand for body protection compound. That label comes from the original research context rather than from formal nomenclature. No standardized nonproprietary name exists for the peptide.
It is a synthetic peptide. Its design was inspired by a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice, but the fifteen-amino-acid molecule itself is made in a laboratory and is not a normal component of food or of human tissue in appreciable amounts.
